I remember watching this hilarious movie about a guy and his actor friends trying to make it in Hollywood. My girlfriend and I laughed as Mikey blundered over his newfound single-dom. But in the end, found ourselves cheering for him because really, he was "money."

When Brian and I lived in the Hollywood Hills, the 101 Coffee Shop was our breakfast, lunch and dinner of choice. It's almost always open, reliably good, and fairly cheap. If you're into being healthy, there are a few healthy items on the menu, but not too many (go to Hugo's if you want healthy... much better for that).

I blogged this place long time ago. I went back few times and their food never leave much impression on me. This time I went there for dessert. The Chocolate Waffle brownie Sundae is great. It's basically a big warm chocolate brownie pressed into waffle shape and topped with vanilla ice cream. I felt a bit chocolate overdose by the end though, especially when the ice cream were gone (someone kept eating it). I wished I had coffee or milk to wash it down.

As I was growing up, there were certain things that I swore would never come back in style. Tapered jeans was one of them, and now, to my surprise, they're back again, being worn with tunic tops, low slung belts and pumps by tall skinny types to being worn with studded belts, beat up Chucks, and rock and roll tees by today's mall rat teenagers. Nor did I ever think that the whole "my parents' house in the 70's" look would come back. You know the type: cheesy wood paneled walls donning faded photos of your dad with mutton-chop sideburns and your mom wearing coke-bottle glasses. The scratchy orange and brown plaid "tweed" sofa that sat in front of an all-in-one wood TV and stereo console. Things that were hip became square but are now hip again.

With stylish early-1960s decor, red-and-brown booths and a jukebox filled with everything from the Allman Brothers to Marvin Gaye, the 101 has an ambience that appeals to both neighborhood hepcats and motel guests. A large menu features the usual diner staples--burgers, grilled cheese, pancakes and eggs--along with twists such as fried-green tomato salad and "No Huevos" rancheros, a spicy vegetarian scramble of tofu, soy chorizo, corn and peppers.

Cafe 101 is a hipster diner place. The tiny red T-shirt sleeve on the far left of the 1st pix was Vincent Gallo! He was sitting by himself and looking very pissed .. ^^;;; The Grapefruit juice wasn't very good, too sour and not fresh.

sundays start off the same: too late on sunday morning sleep time (2 am if i'm lucky), too early in the morning wake up call ("hello? HELLO?!"), sunday mass at st. victor's, then breakfast at the 101 coffee shop in hollywood.
