We were meeting friends Shannon and Akhil for the first time in a while, and wanted to hit a Hollywood restaurant before going to a show at the Roxy. It was a toss up between Ammo and Lucky Devil's. Ammo Situated in an industrial part of Hollywood known for its camera stores, Ammo is a good go-to place for lunch or dinner. Mon ami, who is French-American and grew up in L.A., ran into one of his friends from the movie biz while we lunched.

French Lentil Salad with golden beets, toasted pepitas, chives and goat cheese in a dijon vinaigrette, $9. Not a big fan of Lentil, there's not much taste too (it's not mine). Mushroom Pizza with porcini, shitake and portabello mushrooms, caramelized shallots and smoked mozzarella, $14. This is probably the most yummy pizza I've ever had!! >< super yummy! It's too big for one person so it's good to share it with someone. Rustic apple tart with ice-cream and caramel sauce. $7. alright.

Ammo is a healthy "comfort food" place on Highland Blvd. Michelle and co. took me here to sort of celebrate a belated bday lunch. ^_^ Prosciutto Pizza, I never had such pizza before. There's very little cheese, the crust is those thin types and the prosciutto was good. It definitely taste healthy. I forgot the name of the brown rice thing, it's not mine but I had a spoon, it taste good and healthy as well!

While general opinion and the interior of Ammo have changed somewhat over time, the lentil salad remains a fortunate menu fixture. Without the usual abundance of onion and garlic used to cook and overpower lentils the nutty and piquant flavors emerge from the firm legumes, pungent goat cheese, and marquis shaped pepitas. Cubes of roasted golden beets and fresh arugula provide soft density and thin chewy texture. The occasional chive lends a bit more zip, too.
