Two new reviews: Jack dines alone, and then a second visit, with family. We like this restaurant/wine bar and, if we lived near enough in L.A., we would visit regularly.

It may not be a secret if you know my birthday, have read my blog for a while, or checked out my random profile page linked on the right. But I am so totally - a Scorpio. I like to think that I live for passion - whether it be food, love, or work. But with it, also comes obsession, envy, and a hot temper when provoked. I rarely get upset (unless on the road), but when pushed over the edge, fury abounds and you'd better beware of my sting. So when I read about the anniversary dinner at AOC from Oishii Eats, the little green monster inside of me was itching to be let loose. I was a little jealous and envious of her date, and nudged MS...

When a coworker suggested that we go to AOC for a group dinner of 10, I recommended that we make reservations. With only a 5:30 reservation available, going early actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as we were able to have dinner early in addition to having sunlight illuminate the room. Jason, Mona and myself brought many neophytes to AOC, and as usual, it was an enlightening experience.

We threw a bachelorette party for Vero 2 days before her wedding last week! First step of the party is dinner at the famous AOC. I went there before and the food was fabulous. I've been craving it since last time so I got theroasted dates, parmesan and bacon again, it's a perfect little dish to go with wine. Total seven people are sharing these dishes.

Winebar! A lot of people recommended me it to be their favorite restaurant. It's also on the Best restaurants in LA list. It's a tapas place where you share small plates family style. The waitress recommended us the Roasted dates wrapped with bacon and parmesan, it's really good! She also recommended us the wine, wonderful! Speck with apples and arugula. Not very sure what speck is but it's very similar to prosciutto.

So much has been written about AOC already, thus not much point in giving the blow-by-blow. Unless you hate the whole small plates trend which essentially originated at AOC, it's a fantastic restaurant and perfect for pickers who like varieties like me. But I advise first-timers to adjust expectations accordingly because while the food is interesting, rich and intense, I think it can overall fall victim to the hype. We like it best as a comfortable place to enjoy seasonal treats in concert with different amazing wines. Please keep in mind it's much, much more pleasant and less deafening room during the week.

Maria and I like tapas (hence our excitement for the soon-to-open Silver Lake branch of Cobras & Matadors), so I thought AOC (short for Appellation d'Origine Controlee) would be a perfect place to take her for a birthday dinner. It succeeded. Not only was
