Aww...Sawtelle, where the hipsters come out and play. Colorful, young "cool" people killing time sipping their bobba and conversing about the latest whatever. This place has certainly been given a lot of attention lately. The restaurants leading the Japan

Can't resist, just too good. 101 youshoku (Japanese western food) Hamburg Steak with demi-glaze sauce and Cheese Omelette. It's raw-ish liquidy inside the omelette...LOVE it! I'm impressed by the grilled veggie sides too. ^^;;;

Haven't been back to Blue Marlin (where I used to get my yoshoku/pasta/curry fix) for awhile, their menu has changed quite a bit. Sea Urchin Cream Omelette Rice is unique and delicious~~~ *q* That's why I love this place, always uni to everything. ;D

Last week, the usual suspects +1 from Michigan got together for some good eats and good drinks. The plan was to go to Furaibo and order some chicken kara'age and kirin. But when we got there, it was packed for a Thursday night. Not sure if that's pretty typical or atypical for this izakaya. So after waiting for almost an hour, we scoped out some other restaurants on Sawtelle that would quickly accommodate our large group of six. Enter Blue Marlin.

I wasn't thrilled with this dish because of the quality of the chicken. On the front page of the menu, Blue Marlin devotes a couple of paragraphs to how they use Jidori chickens and their eggs, saying that they are free range and organic and of far superior quality. But the chicken didn't taste special, and the cuts of meat they chose contained large chunks of fat--a big turn-off. My favorite things about this dish were the roasted acorn squash, the presentation, and the committment to organic ingredients.

A lot of Japanese Yoshoku these days. Cheese Hamburg steak (=meatloaf). Quite good~ :D Comes with salad and a very watery no taste miso soup. Blue Marlin's quality isn't so stable recently. The other day I had an Uni spinach spagehetti and it was too watery.

For some reason last week was a Sawtellle week for me, I was there for lunch and dinner nearly everyday. Especially Blue Marlin, gosh so embarassing. I'm totally hooked on their Ikura and Sea Urchin Spaghetti (or variation, just sea urchin, not in picture). Very creamy and gosh so delicious, and lots of sea urchin. Their curry is fantastic, very natural spice and herb tasting. I have to control my urges not to go back there for the Sea Urchin spaghetti this week...too embarassing~ X(

We're lovers of Japanese Pastas. Thank god there are some nice Japanese Pasta restaurants in this desert too~~ The best in my opinion is Blue Marlin on Sawtelle (West LA).
