Border Grill is an overpriced, upscale Mexican place in Santa Monica. I looked over their menu and most are over $20 but nothing seemed that good. There wasn't anything on the menu that told me to order this now. So I just got a chicken adobo quesadilla, $14.50. The quesadilla was nothing special, even with a sweet adobo sauce. I'm FULL REVIEW
Mini Foodventure #39: Brunch at Border Grill

As noted by my Twitter yesterday, my camera momentarily gave out during my brunch excursion at the Border Grill and had problems reading/saving to the memory card. It conveniently recovered at the end of our meal, but who wants to look at photos of roadkill on a plate? ;) Nonetheless, my friend and I had our opinions of the place, so I'll do a quickie foodventure post on it. We started off with two pint glasses of their house margaritas on the rocks (normally $7.75, but gratis for this trip - thanks to a reward offer from one of my credit cards,) which were very well made and fairly potent, and the salt actually made a difference in... The Border Grill has some history with me. It is the first place I ate when I rolled into Los Angeles, literally the first night. I had watched the Two Hot Tamales on Food TV (back when it was still interesting), and they really had the best show out ther FULL REVIEW

Mmm, dipping sauces. A nice change from the usual plain ol' red. I loved the green salsa and ate a lot of it straight. It reminded me a bit of green chutney, but with a hint of. . .banana? I know, I'm crazy, and that doesn't sound appetizing, but trust me, it was good. I also liked the chips--they had a great crunch, and weren't greasy. FULL REVIEW

I am grateful to my college years at UCLA for exposing me to many things. I was exposed to the agony of pulling all-nighters before finals. I was exposed to beer kegs and Goldschlager shots and the harsh discovery that the two don't mix well. I was exposed to many different cultures (and foods!) through the friends I made. And finally, I was exposed to many different ideals and the people that believed strongly in them. It was the first time I realized people got mad at others for simply being content with the way life is. It was the first time I had really been introduced to the concept of political correctness and why it was important to be sensitive to others that are different than me.
