I should have known better. When talking local restaurants with my aesthetician, she was shocked I hadn't tried Dusty's--"it's really fab" she said. However, a knack for well-shaped eyebrows does not a restaurant critic make. To put it bluntly? Dusty's was disgusting. Regular readers of Erin's Kitchen know I don't make a habit of skewering restaurants. Usually if I have a bad meal, I don't bother to write it up--there's too much good stuff out there to focus on, and perhaps it was just an off night. However, our Saturday night dinner at Dusty's was the worst restaurant meal I've had in ages--bad food, bad service, bad wine. I'd...

After 2 weeks of endless work for the project me and Freda were pitching against each other, finally have time to update this old entry. Originally RP and I wanted to go to Fatty's, turns out it wasn't open on Sunday :(. Without a backup plan, we end up at Dusty's. RP got the the Vegetrian Pasta, so-so, not enough taste. I got the Quails that's a special, it's very delicious! They were cooked with raisins and apple so the sauce was both salty and sweet.

Tina is getting married this weekend so last Friday a group of us went out for her bacholerette party. Freda got the duck which is very good. The meat is so tender. There's sweeten kumquat on the side for extra flavor. Delicious!

So Dustry's got liquor license and offers dinner now. I tried their brunch and lunch before and I like it a lot, see Old entry. The cute place now is more decorated with these really beautiful lamp shades. the Fillet Mignon, Ahi Tuna Steak, Appetizer plate and the desert (forgot the name, it's these donut-like dough thing with chocolate and ice-cream). The dinner is good overall, but it's not overly impressive. We also got their French onion soup and it's not good either. It's not cheap either, so....I would just stick with their breakfast and lunch.

A new hip French bistro in Silver lake that serves breakfast and lunch (they're waiting for liquor liscense so no dinner yet). Love the interior decor which is old Parisian-ish with lots of antiques. The dark wood bar is also nice too (and the guy behind is pretty cute ?), though for now there's no liquor yet. Fresh strawberry orange juice, very fresh and no sugar.

Given that Silver Lake is a bastion of brunch mediocrity, it's no wonder folks have been in a tizzy about Dusty's. The Euro-ish vibe cafe brings a new level of young bourgie-ness to the corner of Sunset and Descanso, where resale shops once rubbed elbows with an unappealing coffee house. This new neighborhood restaurant presence also illustrates the differences among the many pockets of Silver Lake. At this particular spot "gentrification" might as well take the form of a flashing neon sign; compared to Rowena, valet parking feels way out of place. (Truth be told, however, it's often necessary.)
