Noah is my weekly lunch buddy, an ex-work associate that can finally just be a friend. We hop all over Los Felix and Silverlake for yummy eats, and this week, we landed in Gingergrass.

I didn't set out to go to Gingergrass. Actually, I was going to Red Lion Tavern to prove I felt no lasting derision against it. Wouldn't get an opportunity on this night, there was a line and the frigid wind was motivating us to get inside quickly. Frankl

In St. Louis there was this restaurant called Pho Grand that had ten different tofu dishes. Ten!!! I always ordered tofu with ginger and onions, or occasionally, tofu with lemongrass and chiles. Since moving to LA, I have not been able to find a restaurant that can satisfy my desire to eat a plate full of delicious tofu and crushed rice (the only kind of rice I really like).

Wow finally found a cool Vietnamese place that's good too ^o^! Gingergrass is my new favorite place in Silver Lake. Surprisingly, the food do taste authentic. Other than the usual Vietnamese dishes, they have some interesting entrees (ex: banana leaf fish). These drinks Basil-Lime Elixir $2.95 are very delicious and refreshing. The Shrimp chip is free (with hoshin sauce).

Sometimes the restaurants right in your own neighborhood are the hardest to get to -- it seems too obvious or something. So we finally went to Silver Lake's groovy nouveau Vietnamese Gingergrass, only like a year or something since it opened. Just to be clear upfront, this is not the place to go for super-authentic spicy Vietnamese food nor the place to go for dirt-cheap Vietnamese food. This is the place to go when you and your friends want a fun, tasty dining experience that's relatively reasonably priced, attractively presented and won't scare people who aren't familiar with the real thing. Since that's what pretty much everyone seems to be looking for, be prepared to wait on weekends.
