There's a phenomenon that occurs when 'Hounds all eat together -- all of a sudden everyone is Jonathan Fucking Gold. Either everyone is in total adoration or everyone is in total disgust, and the crowd in which I run will typically err on the side of adoration. One visit to the 8th St location of Guelaguetza, though, and we were all pretty much in mutual disgust. It wasn't an overblown snobby foodie reaction -- it really was bad.

Not wanting to brave the Westside traffic just for the sake of some dinner, I decided to stay close to home and head southeasterly instead toward K-Town for some Mexican food. Guelaguetza is somewhat famous in Los Angeles for its authentic Oaxacan cuisine. Oaxaca is a Mexican state in the southern part of Mexico, often called "Land of the Seven Moles." I really like mole, and I had heard so many great things about Guelaguetza... I thought I was in for a fantastic meal.
