The contination of the crazy weekend of food when Brian came into town...is contined with our trip to Jin Patisserie on Abbot Kinney. We were looking for somewhere different, somewhere to sit and take a time out from all the crazy stuff happening in our lives. This place fit the bill - with its' outdoor seating and calming little water fountain in the middle of their courtyard, it was a great place to unwind. We all decided to get their Afternoon Tea Set. It came with one choice of tea in a little teapot...unfortunately no refills (I mean, come on, just add hot water?)

A really cute place in the area of Venice. A nice place to spend some time after some shopping in that area. Cute Japanese desserts. We had their homemade ice tea, which was served in a modern white sleek teapot with sugar water. I always liked Japanese dessert because it's very light tasting it's almost like you have to imagine the taste on your palette.

I treat myself and had the afternoon tea set from Jin Patisserie (see old entry) for lunch. When I asked if it's too big for one person the waitress said no ^^;; There're sandwich, quiche, 2 scones, 2 pound cake, 4 mini-pastries + 1 chocolate + tea.

I just wrote about seeing stars in Los Angeles and I've read about Sarah's "embarrassed smile" when she met Violet's chef/owner, Jared Simons, BUT nothing could have prepared me for my face-to-face meeting with Kristy Choo of Venice's Jin Patisserie.

The first time I ever went to "spa day" with my friends, I was a little taken aback by how comfortable many people are about just letting it all hang out in front of strangers. I mean, don't get me wrong, the whole day was indeed relaxing--I felt like a wet noodle after all those massages, facials and treatments--but in the ladies spa room, the ladies just showed their goods to the world. And I mean all of them. Here we were in this tranquil atmosphere--calming music playing softly in the background, a few beautiful yet simple orchids placed here and there to add an elegant touch to the otherwise zen-minimalist room--and there they were...butt-naked. No, I am not one of those women that takes her bra off under her shirt so that no one can see anything, but I am also not one of those women that likes to hang out in the jacuzzi with random women who aren't wearing anything to separate themselves from the water that's touching me! That, to me, is not relaxing...ewww!

Asian cities have some of the best bakeries in the world, where pastry artisans spin creations so fine it's as though an angel breathed on your plate. So when Kristy Choo, of Singapore, opened Jin Patisserie tea garden in Venice, California, the trendy locals came to relax in a modern landscape and nibble on homemade chocolates with surprisingly tasty flavors like Caramel Clove, The des Concubine, Mango Kalamansi, and Earl Grey Feuilletine.

Lunch here with Yan, who worked in Bl:nd at Santa Monica and has became my lunch buddies. So I've tried their cakes, chocolates and big cake, I realized they have lunch sets too. Two kinds: Quiche or Sandwich. The Quiche are ok, but the sandwich was too plain (nothing inside by regular ham and salad green, and a thin stingy barely noticable slice of butter). -,-;;; The cakes came with the sets are very mini-bite size, my Louvre was very frozen and old. Next time just stick with their cakes. I have yet to try their Afternoon tea set though...^^;;;

Finally try Jin Patisserie's chocolate. I raved about their cakes before. On the counter I have to make difficult decision to pick 6 from the 20 types into this paper box...gosh... ^^;; Top from left to right: Manga Kalamansi, Lychee, Jasmine. Bottom: Sea-Salt Caramel, Lavender, The du Hammum. The graphical prints and patterns on the chocolates gave the delicate, elegant and modern look~ The chocolates are all light and moussey inside and very flavored with herbs and spices, though so subtle that some taste a bit too similar. They taste too delicate that I ended up craving chocolate bars for more choco-satisfation ^^;;;

Tucked away behind a fence on the most well-traveled portion of Abbot Kinney, you may walk by this pastry shop ten times before you notice it.
