Good French Neighbors

A common food lament about L.A. is the lack of neighborhood French restaurants that aren’t overly pedestrian or fussy, and serve solid, down-to-earth staples, like coq au vin, Potage D'Oignon, steak frites, Cassoulet. Like what you find on every fourth block in Manhattan. I get sick of hearing it, but honestly, I’m one of those people from whom this complaint can often be heard. Our recent semi-disastrous experience at La Poubelle didn’t do much to make me feel much better about this situation either. A couple dinners at relatively modest local French restaurants have gotten me thinking about this question again. FULL REVIEW
