My friend Susan was in town from Australia for a conference at UCLA this week so it presented a perfect time to finally try Orris on Sawtelle. At the waiter's recommendation we started with the fried shishito peppers with prosciutto and parmesan. FULL REVIEW

I have been to Orris two times now, and I do believe it is my new favorite restaurant. First of all, I feel confident that I can order anything from the wine list and it will be somewhere between decent and quite good in quality--nothing that tastes like metal. Second, it's small and quiet enough to have an intimate conversation. Finally, the food is interesting and tasty, and the small portions mean that I get to try multiple dishes, or that if I'm just not that hungry, I don't have to pay for a bunch of food I can't eat. The smoked scallop with caviar and ikura is no more on their menu!! XO Unfortunately the dishes we order this time were all very oily and none of us drank beer. The top left pic Stuffed Squash with Olive Pate is the best. FULL REVIEW

I saved the last stop on my small plates quest to report on last, because it was my favorite. Unfortunately I chickened out on the photos, because I didn't want to stop eating to take pictures and because flavor of the dishes at Orris was more remarkable than the look. Don't go by the menu posted on the website, because the specials and the regular in-house menu is much more interesting. FULL REVIEW

Orris is a gourmet French-Japanese fusion small plates/tapas place in Sawtelle across from Giant Robot, it's opened by the same chef from Shiro, the French restaurant in Pasadena which I found so-so and overprice. So I was surprised at how good and affordable Orris is! FULL REVIEW
