Chicken and Waffles have enjoyed a popularity in California, both Southern and Northern. It might seem a strange combination, but it's no stranger than having pie instead of salad at dinner. And what's strange about pie?

Roscoe's House of Chicken 'n Waffles - Long Beach, CA [Eating]
It was 1998. Chubby(college)panda was sitting in a theater with some friends watching Rush Hour. As Jackie Chan cooled his heels in front of the Foo Chow restaurant, a pair of Japanese tourists approached and asked a fateful question. "Excuse me, do you know where is Roscoe's Chicken n' Waffles?" Puzzled, young Chubbypanda leaned to the SoCal native on his left and whispered, "What's that?" "What's what?" "Roscoe's Chicken 'n Waffles." A look of stunned disbelief.

I heard about this famous soul food place a lot but this is my first visit. Again if weren't for lunching with the guys it would take me forever to venture into this seemingly heavy high cholestrol place. I'm not sure why the combination of fried chicken and waffle, but I wasn't in the mood for fried chicken so I got the Natalie's special: 2 fantastically prepared waffles made with their own mix. The waffles are fresh and light. The big blobs of melting butter were very hard to resist. Sunrise, orange juice + lemonade.

An interesting combination of chicken and waffles has been the feature of Roscoe's since they opened. I went to their Pasadena location to give it a try. When coming north on Lake, it's easy to miss the Roscoe's sign since a tree blocks your view. But if

Girl's one request during her trip was that I'd take her to Roscoe's. I love it! I don't know why that chicken in the back looks blue. Anyhow, Roscoe's is timeless...it's chicken and waffles and that alone is beauty.

Mention the word "drama" and I am suddenly taken to my college days when I lived with a roommate who I think invented the word. I think she actually survived on drama, creating it wherever she went and with whomever she came in contact with. Piss her off and she'll stay mad at you for weeks. Her birthday celebration always had to last a whole week and God forbid you didn't attend every single event.

Some stories are better left untold. Roscoe’s fried chicken & waffle empire serves pretty good Southern food (for around these parts) in 5 locations around Los Angeles. As odd a combination as it sounds, fried chicken and waffles go together like milk and Pepsi. Think hot, crisp, peppery fried chicken. Grits, greens, corn bread (two kinds), chicken sausage, smothered biscuits, red beans and rice, and of course, waffles.
