Don't be fooled by this restaurant's location at the Santa Monica Airport. The interior is sleek and the food high quality. Nor does the clientele consist primarily of pilots and other airport-related folks. The weekday lunchtime crowd is largely suited. The restaurant is small and aesthetically pleasing, and overlooks the runway, but is noisy due to poor acoustic design (a concrete floor and large windows). The planes themselves don't provide excess noise and are fun to watch. FULL REVIEW

I met a freelancer in the office and she showed me around her East Village neighborhood. There is sort of a "Little Tokyo" corner here and lots of authentic Japanese pubs and restaurants. We ate at this Izakaya style pub with her bf! There's another popular crowd waiting outside Izakaya down the street that has a kitschy retro Japanese 60s theme but it's more for tourist and non Japanese. Japanese people go to this one more. Typhoon @ Santa Monica Airport

After a long day of work, it was nice to be out in the city with some good company. M, S, & I decided to go to Typhoon, a trendy Asian fusion restaurant on the west side. Located in the Santa Monica Airport, it's on the second floor of an administrative building - a somewhat difficult place to find unless you knew where to drive. Luckily, I was a passenger.
