I thought I had it made when I started working in Century City. The mall was across the way and the renovated food court offered all sorts of tasty options. But with anything in frequency, it got old fast. A couple months went by and I started packing my own bento box mainly in protest against the mall's high-priced mediocrity. If you work anywhere near West Hollywood I recommend heading to Yabu. They're open from noon to 2:30 pm for lunch and their set menu is on par with your typical Tokyo eatery. (i.e., sensible portions with delicate flavors.) Though just like Mishima, it's a carb-lovers' combo -- soba/udon and rice bowl for just... FULL REVIEW

When I want a tendon (tempura over rice) I expect to get something like what you see above. For me, a good tendon elicits the Pavlovian reaction and next thing I know I've got a pool of drool on the table. Good tempura is crispy, but not crunchy like pota FULL REVIEW

Went to Yabu for lunch before and it was a traditional soba and udon place. At night, it is completely different! I'm glad I tried, it is so delicious~ Beef Tataki is the best, I can come back again and again for this! The next picture is the Fried Zucchini Flower stuffed with shrimp and lotus root, so good~ It is not on regular menu, what if they won't have it next time!!?!? FULL REVIEW

Found this hard to spot authentic Japanese Soba/Udon restaurant nearby where I worked. The place looked so tiny and blank outside that it took me awhile to spot it while driving. I never liked soba for its buckwheat taste and wheaty texture, though it might be because I never had truly good soba before. Inside felt like Japan, packed with Japanese ojisans and salaryman. The left picture was my collegue's Soba set. I got the Mizore, soba with Ikura and radish and seaweed. Pretty good! I still wasn't too crazy about craving soba. I'd try their udon next time. I'm so grateful there're authentic Japanese noodle place so closed by! *__* There's a sushi bar inside as well. FULL REVIEW
