What a delicious place! Ive recently gone back to Fattys and I still find it the most innovative vegetarian restaurants around Los Angeles. The cuisine shows a creativity to satisfy every palate with a fare influenced by various parts of the world. French, Creole and other cultures are quickly noticeable and yet they have a variety of delicous pizzas to choose from. The meals are satisfying even to the greatest carnivores. Fresh mint for the mojitos and other fresh herbs come from the garden in the back whi
Fatty's "sloppy joe" made with soy crumbles, aka textured vegetable protein. Nothing says delicious like textured vegetable protein, or TVP for short. I first sampled this delicacy with my village host family while studying abroad in Zimbabwe, and had the chance to pay about $14 for it last Friday at the vegetarian restaurant Fatty's in Eagle Rock. Ah, the difference between vegetarians-by-necessity and vegetarians-of-choice. As an unreptentant meat eater and lover of vegetables, I don't understand vegetarians' interest in fake meat. If you truly pine for the taste of meat, how can an overly processed slice of fake soy bacon suffice?...

Organic conscious eateries have been a standard site anywhere West of Dowtown, dishing out food that even the most stubborn omnivore would enjoy. Especially with this recent "Go Green" Vogue that everyone has been advantageously following. But the East Side...that's a whole different story, still stuck with Iceberg-Lettuce Salads, GardenBurgers, Bean Burritos and your occasional Asian restaurant, that was about it. At least...this is what i thought. A savory Strudel filled with lentils, pecans, macademias, and roasted garlic? With a light creamy sauce? East of Down Town?that's right A Millet, Barley, Soy Loaf with creamy spinach sauce,...

Back to Fatty's & Co., past entries here and here. Pea soup that came with the Cheese and Mushroom Ravioli. The ravioli is good but not that special, and it's rather small portion. The pea soup was fantastic. I forgot the name of the pizza I got. As shown in picture it's got unconventional topping, much like most of the items on their menu which are particular and exquisite. The pizza taste healthy yet also rich and tasty!

Isn't that just the most perfect plate of vegetarian heaven you have ever seen? I bet the mound of pastel pink iced cake capped with a small fist sized strawberry displayed in the bakery case could've done a number on my tastebuds, too. But I wouldn't know - because this birthday dinner went from 0-90 in less than 60 minutes.

Chandelier thong sandals. Contractors. Fatty's. What do these three things have in common? They are this summer's must haves! Well, at least for this kitten they are. In the midst of moving from our tiny one bedroom rental to dwell in a roomier home, one in need of some TLC, during this revamping process which will take months I may not be spending as much time in the kitchen as I would like. That means: TRYING NEW RECIPES, MODIFYING OLD RECIPES, SHOPPING FOR KITCHEN ACCESSORIES, PLANNING AND PREPARING FOURTH OF JULY/BIRTHDAY SOIREES, BAKING COOKIES WITH SISTER. How long does a girl have to suffer?? Too long apparently. About as long as raw meat can keep fresh in the freezer to be exact (read: up to four months).

We finally tried Fatty's, a friend's recommended vegetarian cafe at Eagle rock that appears casual but with fine dining quality. I was so impressed once I stepped inside, the festive lights and hip loft-like modern + cabin interior, walls of magazines, wine bottles and coffee and dessert, I love it already! :D The vibe inside is hip and lively. They were playing Pink Martini. We didn't wait long enough for the cheese to melt and 'wasted' a lot in the beginning ^^lll The brocolli was cooked so they get a bit too soft and broke apart while dipping. It is just so good! YES I have finally found my favorite veggie restaurant!
