The Oinkster and Dylan - Rising Above Rejection

I made the big mistake of not introducing Dylan to my father earlier. Unfortunately, I waited too long. Months after everything was official between Dylan and I, Dylan was a guest eater on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservation. "Great!" I thought. "Dad can see him on tv." Little did I know, Dylan was introduced as "The Noodle Whore!" After the show I called my mom to ask if she and my dad watched Dylan's No Reservation episode. Her first response was, "Daddy's asking why you're dating a whore?" Silence. Months past and my dad still asked about the Noodle Whore and I would always respond, "Oh daddy, he's so much MORE than a whore." I... FULL REVIEW

In deference to Pulitzer Prize-winning Jonathan Gold, I just had to check out his recommendation last week for The Oinkster. It didn't hurt that the new-ish Colorado Blvd restaurant specializes in slow roasted pulled-pork barbeque and Belgian-style fries and is about 10 minutes from my house. Eastern North Carolina is generally considered the home of pork barbeque in the U.S. and I've eaten my fill of it on summer trips to see family back East. (We typically froze several pounds of it to fly it back with us to our home in Texas where the word barbeque is synonymous with beef.) Oinkster's pork sandwich was absolutely delicious, but... The restaurant set-up is nice, the decor casual but stylish with its DWR-like flooring. The menu is simple and not overly ambitious but hints at above-average ingredients. FULL REVIEW
