I ordered a Raspberry Cake from this little bakery on Centinela Angel Maid Bakery (see my old entry) for my mother's birthday. It is absolutely wonderful: lightly sweet, raspberry flavor taste fresh, airy mousse top with many 'layers' of cake beneath, the bottom chocolate sponge cake layer was soaked with sauce.

After our eh! Mediocre! lunch at Sakura, we ran across the street to Angel Maid Bakery for their delicious choux cream puffs. I encountered these amazing puffs before Beard Papa - and they definitely are the best of the best when it comes to traditional choux cream. The size of these little puffs are perfect. A mini delicious two-bite treat. Because the puffs are so small, it feels alright to eat more than one, whereas one Beard Papa puff is the equivalent to 5 of these choux cream. The custard inside the puff is very sweet, and filled to the brim. If you don't bite into one carefully, the insides squirt out all over the place - so you gotta be careful!

I passed by this not-so-pretty bakery near my office everyday, I finally went in and found that it's Japaense pastry! The cakes I got: Mango Mousse, Raspberry and Mocha...are all very good. The cake moist and flavoredly soaked, the bottom layer has chocolate flakes and nuts. The cream puffs was a bit stale though. But really what a BLESSING that actually worked so close to a wonderful pastries place! :D (why didn't I discover it sooner?)

Before there was Beard Papa's cream puffs (which I still have yet to try), there was a small Japanese American bakery on the west side of Los Angeles called Angel Maid Bakery.
