I may suffer from lactose intolerance but am a sucker for anything made with dairy - especially ice cream. About a year ago, I was introduced to a wonderfully sophisticated, little milk shop in Los Angeles called Milk. And I can't get enough! Owner Bret Thompson, who was the former corporate executive chef of Patina, always greets you with a smile and welcomes you into his shop like you're family. His ice cream and milk sensations, along with more "grown-up" menu items like his soups and salads, are refreshing and always a treat. Last week, I stopped in with a friend for a late night dessert. I didn't see Billy Crystal at Milk this...

Milk makes their own chocolate ice cream sandwiches. Or get a hand-dipped Nutty Buddy, chocolate-dipped mint ice cream bon bon, or a freshly made cookie. Milk is amazingly delicious and I'm glad I don't live any closer to it. Milk 7290 Beverly Blvd (323) 939-6455

Who else thinks Joan's On Third could use some competition?
Milk has great coffee. They have homemade ice cream. And, by god, they cater. And they cater well. I found this in a Variety conference room this afternoon. Roasted corn salad with moist fried chicken breast, parmesan crisps topped with rare roast beef, horseradish mushrooms, arugula and parmesan, the heirloom tomato salad you see above with an excellent basil lemon dressing... I wasn't invited to the luncheon. I ate anyway. For a place that appears so small and unassuming, Milk...

Milk on Beverly Blvd. has the best lattes in Los Angeles.
You are welcome to disagree, although I'd ask that you try Milk's first. They use coffee from LA Mill in Alhambra. However, Milk will have a fierce competitor for the latte title when LA Mill owner Craig Min opens his own coffee shop in Silver Lake later this year.

I said I would continue the story of Milk since my last post on Milk and so I'm making good on my promise. Consider this Milk part Deux. Seeing as most people go to Milk for dessert, I started with that in the other post. But there's so much more at Milk... like actual food. Not only that, the food is actually good. I start with exhibit A, a pulled pork sandwich with Manchego cheese along side a fresh salad. Nestled between two lightly toasted pieces of panini style bread were crunchy pickles and mustard that made the shredded pork come to life. The...

After a busy 4th of July, I was craving a nap this afternoon, but opted for a temporary sugar high instead. Milk is a wonderful ice cream/pastry/sandwich shop on Beverly Blvd. Sundaes, brownies, blondies, cookies, pudding, pecan bars, ice cream sandwiches, tres leches cake, chocolate cake, bon bons, and even a blue velvet cake (stunning color, but certainly not appealing as red). I choose thier version of Affogato, called Espresso a la Mode: vanilla ice cream with espresso, hazelnuts, whipped cream and chocolate sauce. It was so big and rich I was only able to eat about half of it, but enjoyed every bite. Milk 7290 Beverly Blvd. Los...

Milk ... Dessert - Part 1(I'll be back for the full menu)
"So," I said, "what's all the hype about this new place Milk?" as I continued to see blog after blog saying how incredibly good this new place was. So on our hot and lazy Sunday afternoon, Celeste and I decided it would be the perfect time to visit this creamery of creameries. We got there and fussed over what to get for a while (on the picture of the menu shown below, the desserts and drinks take up two of the three panels), then got in the line which was pleasantly fast and proceeded to order entirely too much. If there are any actors reading this...

Let it be known that it's a good omen if French actress Julie Delpy patronizes your eatery. Afterall, by default of being French you have a keen sense of taste, culture and ... okay, well not necessarily but the last time I spotted her it was at Pinkberry

Milk is clean space, with tables inside and out. Most people were eating salads and sandwiches (the sandwiches looked good, the salads looked average). Homemade ice cream is the centerpiece of the dessert menu which includes ice cream sandwiches, milk shakes and malts. There are also bonbons, cookies, brownies, specialty sodas and basically any variation of tooth-decay-promoting sweet you can think of.

We finally made it to MILK on Beverly Blvd. for some dairy sweets and nostalgia. MILK just opened only several weeks ago and the place is already lined up with dairy loving consumers.

I love the idea of Milk -- milkshakes like the Milkie Way Malt and the Espresso a la Mode put a smile on my face -- and hopefully will more so when I finally try them. Disappointed that the service left much to be desired.
