KT has already covered Osteria Mozza thoroughly and with gusto. We enjoyed dinner there on Saturday night, here are my quick notes:
Yes, you still need to call 30 days ahead. Lighting up the phones right at 10:00, and continuing through 10:50, Suzy was able to get us a four top at 6:00
The dining room is [...]

Osteria Mozza, Los Angeles - A Spontaneous Hundred-Dollar Snack
On the way back from Audrey Kawasaki's latest exhibit at the Bergamot Station, Mayoi Michi, J & I drove with rumbling stomachs. We started to flip through our mental rolodex of late-night food options in the Silver Lake adjacent. Soup noodles at Torung or Ruen Pair in Thai Town? Tacos Arizas, the taco truck that catered our first date in Echo Park? Best Fish Tacos in Ensenada? I wish! They close too early. Two Tacos for $.99 at Jack in the Crack? Fried Chicken at The Prince or Toe Bang in Koreatown? Pho Cafe in Silver Lake? No, thanks. Raw oysters and tasty fries at Hungry Cat? We didn't feel like drinking. We couldn't decide on...

We arrived at Osteria Mozza shortly after 5:00 last Saturday and we were the first in line, waiting to rush the mozzarella bar (with Nancy Sailerton at the helm) at their 5:30 opening. This is what you have to resort to if you do not have a reservation. If you have one, it means you made it one month in advance for a 9:30 Tuesday night slot (like we did), with no chance of being seating early (like we found out at 8:30). No reservations is the way to go. When the doors opened, I made a beeline straight for the mozzarella bar, only to find the hostess very expertly take a side step to her left and block my path with a perky, "2 for the...

Osteria Mozza...Mario and Nancy, I'm sorry but I love you
Me writing this post today is an obligation. I know full well about what every person who's gone to Osteria Mozza thinks about the place. You can't read too many reviews online and not know that this place is one of the new big hitters on the scene that is a force to be reckoned with. But, like many foodie types in LA, haven't we all become a little jaded to good food? Mario Batali isn't such a fan of bloggers and it's highly warranted, but can he blame me for loving his and Nancy Silverton's restaurant? Dare I say the word transcendent fell off our lips while...

If you don't mind eating a decadent meal on a backless stool, it's not too hard to snag a seat at Osteria Mozza's mozzarella bar. At 7 on a Friday night, the restaurant is fully booked, but just a few people are waiting in the bar. I like the marble counters and cool blue color scheme much better than Pizzeria Mozza's burnt orange walls. While I waited for Kathy, I ordered a potent and tasty cocktail made with bourbon, fennel honey and lemon -- like the hot toddies I used to make at bedtime, only chilled and refreshing. Once we were seated, sommelier David Rosoff helped us choose a reasonably-priced Barbera which proved an excellent foil...

Santa Barbara Spot Prawns at Osteria Mozza - Los Angeles
I’m giving Santa Barbara Spot Prawns co-billing b/c they deserve at least as much attention as Osteria Mozza, and I consider this post something of a PSA — I have to spread the word about Santa Barbara Spot Prawns. I hadn’t known about them before yesterday afternoon, when I happened upon them in Suzanne [...]

Osteria Mozza's best seats don't require a reservation.
Osteria Mozza has become the French Laundry of Los Angeles, a restaurant where dialing the reservation line is a lot like calling Indie 103 for Coachella tickets. However, the long white marble bar contains 13 seats that are first-come, first-serve. And they're the only place you'll see chef-owner Nancy Silverton; she stations herself behind the bar all night, preparing her mozzarella for the masses. Osteria Mozza, 641 N. Highland Ave. (323) 297-0100...

When talking about Osteria Mozza, there aren't any nasty rumors to put to rest nor much criticism at all, really. I was ready to drink the Kool-Aid before the long anticipated restaurant finally opened, and now I've swilled and chugged....

Mozza this, Mozza that, it’s the new Osteria in town…everyone is excited and I was excited so I called for reservations multiple times—but to no avail. They’re all booked up. “Crazy,” I thought. “They must be good, like my Italian favorites, Madeo, Angelini Osteria , Capo or Il Ristorante di Giorgio Baldi . There was no [...]

So my husband and I had absolutely no plans today. He spent the day at the computer, I spent the day cleaning house and exercising. Suddenly, the evening was almost upon us and we had absolutely nothing going on. He turned to me and said “Hey, what would you think about going and trying to [...]

And You Think Babbo and Lupa are Good...... Hi There Foodies! Well, I guess another apology is in order. It's been ages since I have updated this blog, and I am guessing that many of you have moved on. But for those of you who find themselves looking for straight talk, I've wrapped my globe trotting assignment, and I'm back and raring to go. The bad news for you New Yorkers is that this installment of Fork NY is about a restaurant you may not be able to get to easily... Mario Batali and Nancy Silverton's new Osteria Mozza, on the corner of Highland and Melrose in sunny Los Angeles. Let's talk about food. For those of you who haven't...

Night 5. Table for 4. 8:45pm. I don't suggest it, but I tried to incorporate Osteria Mozza into a food marathon last night. I was with one of the original food marathoners in Studio City before dinner. Keep in mind this is about an hour and a half before our reservation. We were near Henry's tacos so we each had taco. They're small. It wasn't a bid deal. We arrived at around 8pm because we wanted to grab a pizza first. Now I've been to Pizzeria Mozza enough to know how difficult it is to get in. I realize that people reserve a month in advance and wait up to an hour for the bar. I'll have to save the rest of the story for another post...

My friends and I had a fabulous dinner at The Foundry on Melrose (review to come soon), and followed it up with a visit to the brand new Osteria Mozza. We had a couple drinks of Sicilian Amaro, Averna, at the marble bar, soaked up the atmosphere, said "hi" to general manager David Rosoff, and made the earlist reservation posssibe: Tuesday, August 14th at 9:30. And, I got a photo with Mario himself! We checked out the menu, and there was a conspicuous lack of offal, in contrast to the new B&B in Las Vegas. We said so to Mario's partner Joseph, (cookbook author extrodanaire, Lidia Bastianach's son) and he said : "eventually". As cool as it...
