Friday Night's Dinner

Went to the Dos Caminos on Park for my friend’s 30th. I’ve been meaning to try this upscale Mexican place for a while, so was excited to learn that was where we’d be dining. For the most part, the food was pretty tasty, but I found the overall experience to be sort of mediocre. The earpiece clad army of hosts/hostesses were a little over the top and self-important, while our waitress was just sort of jerky seeming, though she did not do anything in particular until we asked for the check (we had to ask twice, the second time she simply responded with a sarcastic thumbs up). i felt like i had heard of dos caminos somewhere…and so i was delighted to go last weekend for alison’s birthday dinner. the atmosphere is hip and trendy, although a little poorly lit for my taste (maybe good for a date?). it reminded me a little bit of rosa mexicano both in decor and in food options and tequila specialization, but i thought the food here was quite good (if a little trendy-pricey) and i’ve heard mediocre things about rosa. they have hte same at-your-table-guacamole which is DELICIOUS, similar to rosa. i ordered strip steak that came with frijoles borrachos which were some sort of regular bean with a bacony sauce (also delicious). i’m not sure what hte sauce on the strip steak was, but overall i felt like it was a delcious, if pricey meal. and if you like margaritas, it’s a good place. the only downside is that everything is a overpriced, but if you’re willing to overlook it, or want to go on a trendy date, it’s a pretty good place. I stopped by to pick up a quick, late dinner after a lengthy wine tasting at I.C.E. The bar wasn't that full for a Thursday night at 9:15 so I was able to place my take out order without having to fight my way to the front. Despite living around the corner, I've never eaten at Dos Caminos until now...I've just been in to have some cocktails before going elsewhere...and it can get quite tight in that awkward bar space. Dos Chicas at Dos Caminos

Patty and I haven't seen each other in ages. We made a lunch date for Thursday and Diana tagged along. They were going to see a movie at the Sunshine that started at 3 and they asked me to suggest a restaurant close by. At first I was going to push Fatty Crab, but that wasn't close by. After doing some research I discovered Dos Caminos on Houston and West Broadway. "That'll work," said Patty and off we went to meet. FULL REVIEW

And Old Is New

I headed once more to a neighborhood I once lived and worked in. In fact I once worked in the very building of the first bar that I visited today. Guardian Insurance outgrew its space where the W Hotel now stands and for awhile rented additional space in various buildings around the area. This was one of them at 225 Park Avenue South.
