Another beautiful bacon cheeseburger.

I can now vouch for another bacon cheeseburger in the world – the one at P.J. Clarke’s, to be specific. At 55th Street and 3rd Avenue, near the reputed former nexus of male prostitution immortalized in a Ramones song, P.J. Clarke’s is located in an ancient building that’s a somewhat of a throwback to those grittier times both inside and out. The bar itself is still dominated by men, so it’s no wonder every review of the place seems to mention the enormous urinals as a kind of tourist attraction – women, apparently, are not the primary customer base. Part and parcel with the male aesthetic and the Midtown office happy hour demographic, the number of suit jackets present outstripped even the “hippest” places in the L.E.S. or Williamsburg during last year’s blazer-craze. In that regard, I’m not sure Dee Dee would know what to make of it. FULL REVIEW

PJ Clarke's

If Boston's Cheers had its New York equivalent it'd be PJ Clarke's...An institution that's been in the making for 120 years. You'll find this classic NY restaurant w/ its old wooden exterior in contrast to the tall midtown office buildings it lies next to.You don't go to PJ's for a fine dining experience, but if you're hanging with Dad and feel like grabbing a beer and a burger, or a hearty cobb salad PJ's is the place. I think they still use the red and white checkered table cloths, and they'll always have a NY baseball game on in the front bar...where you'll be sure to find some yocal locals hanging out, or a set of sailors during fleet week...Very friendly staff-for the first time in my life I watched a server pull up a chair and sit with his table for a few minutes....a serious taboo in the restaurant business and something I'd never seen in my experiences as a waitress...Our friendly server greeted us with his Irish accent and left us happy with beer and good food. In the words of Dave Matthews, just "eat drink and be merry" at PJ's, you can't help it. FULL REVIEW

A Most Interesting Day

Today was a most interesting day. The three person German television crew showed up at my apartment right on the button at 11:00 A.M. to do some filming of me hard at work at my PC making an entry to my blog. Then they took off for another assignment that turned out to be shopping in my neighborhood for food. Apparently they knew of a German butcher shop in the area and they loaded up on sausages. I wonder if it was Staubitz, the one that I usually go to. Here is a picture I took at Staubitz the last time I was there. FULL REVIEW
