Strip House has been on Lon's wish list for a while. We heard about their Crisp Goose Fat Potatoes, prepared by poaching potatoes in goose fat, then baking with goose fat, and finished by deep frying in goose fat. That's what we heard and we couldn't find any documentation on it, so off we went to taste these Crisp Goose Fat Potatoes. They were indeed very good. We couldn't taste much goose fat but did taste some parsley and a hint of rosemary. The texture was wonderful. The soft, yet still firm potato chunks inside were held by a very crisp shell of fried potato on the outside. The small dome of potato was pricey at $11. Of course, we... FULL REVIEW

Strip House Redux

I pretty much feel I said all I have to say in my last report on The Strip House, but due to camera issues at the time I swore I would re-shoot the dishes in all their non-camera-phone glory. This time I went with six guests, all of whom agreed at the end of the meal that this is by far the best steak they have had on the island of Manhattan, and these are the kind of people that do much business over charred bovine flesh. Steak houses exist outside my normal standards for restaurants. Whereas usually I like to observe the subtle choices chefs make in similar dishes and look for merit or fault within these confines, properly prepared meat in a steak house is either the greatest steak in the world or not. There is no grey area. Either it tastes like the best I have ever had or like a miserable facsimile of the best I have ever had and therefore a waste of time FULL REVIEW

Strip House is the witty name of a steakhouse in the Village. It faintly suggests a house of ill repute, and it comes dressed for the part with its ruby-red decor. It also suggests a cut of meat, which is Strip House’s real point. FULL REVIEW
