Dear Boo, We've talked a lot about hangover foods in recent posts. Today though, I must admit I'm suffering from a food-induced hangover. Aka, yesterday I ate more than Jabba the Hut's yearly intake of Princess Leia-inspired cinnamon buns. Now we Harts are a small people. And we mice are small animals. Keep this in mind as you read. my parents took me here for an early birthday dinner. well, i found that they had open reservations and they paid. that’s what i mean. :) i’m calling it american in the sense that it seemed fusion-y generic…not sure what else i would call it. their dishes were certainly interesting, some more good than others! i liked my appetizer a lot, except it was a tad salty (grilled scallops with other delicious things i can’t remember), as well as other people’s appetizers (the lentil, green bean etc salad was delicious, as was the cured buffalo meat with some sort of cheese). i didn’t particuarly like my entree although it was interesting (snail and oxtail ravioli in some sort of sauce). i thought the flavors didn’t go so well together. dessert, however, was scrumptious. pear-lemongrass crumble. so tasty! i wanted to try making it right after, especially since i’ve been seeing lemongrass at the farmer’s market. unfortunately, i missed it yesterday because of so many people to see and yummy things to bake and eat. but hopefully i’ll go again before it closes for the winter! (that’s one of the downsides to having seasons…) also, a very hip and trendy vibe - a full bar right next to us!

Public is a double James Beard award winner for both restaurant design and restaurant graphics. The motif is that of a public library circa 1964. Who knew that card catalogues and leaded glass restroom doors would be modern chic? Even the menu comes on a clipboard that looks like it’s been pulled from manilla card stock.

Public is the new NoLiTa hot spot from New Zealand chefs Peter Gordon and Anna Hansen, owners of The Providores in London. The pair have brought their head chef Brad Farmerie over the pond to the US to develop the New Zealand-meets-the-globe menu, and brought in the cutting edge team at AvroKO to build and design the space. Allow me to say thank you to Gordon and Hansen for bringing their talent to us.
