Diana probably wasn't very happy to navigate the unfamiliar area around Corner Bistro while being pelted with rain...but hey, she told me to make the recommendation. She asked for burgers? I GAVE HER BURGERS! Admittedly, the google map is a bit off; the restaurant is on the corner of West 4th and Jane, not randomly splodged on 8th Ave.

In the US, Memorial Day Weekend typically signifies the start of summer--the beaches open and, supposedly, the temperature spikes up. Of course, this doesn't often happen, but this year it was like clockwork. Saturday, the first day of the weekend, it was all of a sudden 80 F in New York, and it's probably going to stay that way until August.

Central to my culinary consciousness are the lazy summer evenings that I spent in Somerville, Massachusetts, patiently waiting for my turn at the counter of Steve’s Ice Cream. This was the moment at which Alice Waters was refining fine dining in Berkeley, but considering the intense flavors, custom mix-ins, and the perfectly sinful, erotic richness, Cantabrigians had the better of it. Trips to the dentist were a terror. Every appointment meant another meeting with the drill. By the end of my childhood, I had more metal in my mouth than a Southern rapper. My lapses in brushing were partly to blame, but it had even more to do with my love of sweets. No sugar was totally safe in my house. The freezer was the Bermuda Triangle when it came to pints of ice cream. Boxes of Ferrer Rocher vanished once the seal was snapped. I practically gargled with Yoo-Hoo.

This is Lisa's last weekend as a Chelsea resident. When I moved to New York, I moved to Chelsea 10% because it's a great area and 90% because Lisa lived here.
