A Catch: It's counterintuitive to order a burger at a seafood restaurant, but this one rewards stubborn landlubbers with a boatload of briny deliciousness.

The decor for this restaurant is phenemonal! As soon as I walked in, I felt a sense of tranquility which was enhanced by the exceptional service we received. The dining room mimics the feel of a luxurious yacht but without the stuffiness that lot of teak usually inspires. Lure has a very comfortable atmosphere (though I did feel a bit underdressed in jeans) and the round, roomy booths are a good place to congregate with a few friends. The people behind this place also run Chinatown Brasserie and Lever House

We lived in the Mercer Hotel for 6 weeks, 6 years ago. A new hot restaurant across the street had opened when we were there. It was Canteen, on the corner of Mercer and Prince. It was downstairs and very groovy. Mod 60's look in orange and browns with comfort food. It was good but not great.

Josh Pickard (Joe’s Pub, Time Café, Lever House) and John (Lever House, City Magazine) McDonald’s latest restaurant (and runway for stunning men and women who all appear to have been freshly styled for some sort of fashion shoot) is Lure Fishbar, located in the subterranean space that was Canteen at 142 Mercer Street (at Prince Street), 212-431-7676. It was only day three when we had dinner, but there was Frank Bruni, the Times’ restaurant critic, dining at a table across from me. Guess we are all trying to get to the new places early one, ‘cause I saw him at Pace the week before. The guy gets around. I’d love to dine with him, so if anyone knows him, please offer him an invitation to dinner with me. I think he is such a talented writer and he is a riot to read (did you read that line about those little dogs in the Hamptons articles—“cats in drag”—too funny), and I would love to share his company for dinner one night.

There are nights in New York City when you become thankful of the people you know. I was very thankful this one summer night when the manager and sommelier of Lure invited me to a menu tasting before their grand opening. Lure is the latest restaurant to occupy the coveted space under the Prada store in SoHo, replacing the mediocre, orange-themed Canteen.
