Sweet Potato Fries w/yogurt - yogurt? they were really thick like wedges not thin and crispy which is the right way. Baked Beans - the best thing on the table by far and still not "to die for". I thought the beers were reasonably priced and the service was great. the food sucked and that is why I will never eat BBQ north of the Mason Dixon again.

Wings - horrible, tasteless. Blue Cheese and Bacon Dip - bland, could been sour cream with a little blue cheese blended in with bacon crumbles. Quite unremarkable. Mac & Cheese - elbow macaroni was cooked perfectly but the sauce tasted like it was made with fat free cheese. Like really, I eat those Kraft fat free singles and the cheese tasted the SAME! Fry Bread - eh, dinner doughnuts the chipotle butter that came with it was bland.

Blue Smoke was bustling when I went for a late night dinner on Friday. I had a burger, medium rare - it was cooked to order and dripping with juiciness. The drinks are expensive and can easily run up a bill. It wasn't the best BBQ I've had but it was worthy of a repeat visit.
Girls night out....restaurant week.... you might not think of barbeque as a top choice on a night like this, but we had a great time. I'd heard about how good Blue Smoke was supposed to be, and being somewhat of a southern girl I had an interest in checking it out. They had a restaurant week special this week too, alright I was sold... Supposed to have a decent jazz bar there too, though we didn't make it to that. Reservations were booked but we showed up to wait. 45 min wait or so, and the "blood-orange margarita" made up for the wait in quality, though not quite quantity...

Seems like there are so many BBQ places in NY that claim to be the “best in NY”. They all put a little spin on it such as Dinosaur BBQ uptown created by bad ass biker men. I don’t know if Chef Kenny Callahan rides a chopper everyday, but Blue Smoke BBQ in my opinion is just as bad ass.

Want a great lunch for two for around $14 total (before tip) at Blue Smoke? Ask them to split their usual nine-ounce burger into two burgers.

It's almost a cosmic question. Blue Smoke is owned and run by Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group. I know the general manager there, Mark Maynard Parisi, and the chef, Kenny Callahan. These guys all know good food and how to serve it. They make an array of very good sandwiches, everything from an excellent fried oyster sandwich to a killer cubano to even a fine straight-ahead tuna sandwich on buttermilk toast. And their burger is absolutely terrific, one of the best in the city. And I know these guys know how to make great french fries. The fries at the Union Square Cafe served with the burger are among New York's best french fries.

Blue Smoke is like the Bert Blyleven of barbecue: closer to all-star caliber (if that) than hall of famer, but worthy of a spot in your rotation. For New York City BBQ, I’d rank their food behind RUB and Daisy May's (I haven't tried Dinosaur BBQ yet). But for an all-around restaurant experience, with a date or a group of people who don’t all necessarily crave barbecue, Blue Smoke might be your best bet.

What did you do when you went to prison and found out your cellmate's name was Smoke? BLUE SMOKE
The gods of the World Wide Web were angry at me yesterday. Dunno what I did to them, but they clearly were unhappy with me in some way, shape, manner or form. Their displeasure was made clear when I tried to log on numerous times to try to purchase last minute theater, concert or movie tickets for myself and my similarly Internet-challenged friend Joy. We spent fifty frustrating minutes trying to connect to BroadwayBox.com, the schedule at Joe's Pub and the IFC Center sites. During that timeframe, I missed my window of opportunity to go to the gym and was growing more and more agitated by the second.

The next day wasn't really about me. But, heck, it was the day before my actual birthday, so why not? In actuality it was really about my company's holiday hoedown - or as my Southern Fried friend and colleague Kurt declared - ho down.

In New York, you can become very selfish. As a parent, it's tough because there are so many things to do on a nightly basis. So, you either limit yourself, or do a variety of things in one night. Last night was the "how many things can we pack into the evening" night.
