Ducky: There's no fast food, in any sense, at this outpost of the Meatpacking District bistro, but order the La Guardia ($8), and your wait will be rewarded by an indulgently oily Provençal-style sandwich slathered with duck rillettes, oven-roasted tomatoes, and capers. I went to a friend's friend's art show opening at Chelsea (the art galleries area). Afterward we were looking for restaurants in the Meat Market district (despite its name from its meatpacking industry past, it is now very posh and yuppie) and most of the restaurants are fancy pansy that needs reservation. My friend's BF remembered this more casual Provençal French restaurant he went before Paradou. It looks nice and price fair.

I love Paradou in the Meatpacking District. It's a cute little French restaurant that has a tres charmant garden in the back. They serve nice cheese plates, salads, crepes, sandwiches and a few entrees and have a great selection of wine. The outstanding dishes at Paradou are the crepes. I love the mushroom, asparagus pecorino truffle oil crepe as my main dish and the dark chocolate and candied orange crepe for dessert. Delicieux!

I finally discovered a charming French restaurant that has not only a terrific ambience but also plenty of vegetarian options. Paradou, located in the Meatpacking district, has a cozy bar, a tiny dining room and a sprawling garden. The bar and tables are constructed from vintage wine crates creating a rustic atmosphere. The candles at every table create a super romantic aura.

I know Pastis if awesome. But it is also ALWAYS packed. The food is terrific, the decor is left bank chic, and the scene is always on full throttle, so there is good reason for the crowds. But when you actually care to hear what your dining companion has to say-- and I agree that there are times when you want to go to a place where this is not possible--but when you do want to actually converse, and eat really well to boot, you might want to check out Paradou - caddy corner across the street. Yes it is possible, in this über-hip land of stiletto flip flops known as the Meat Packing District, you’ll find a sweet, sunny spot to relax over wine, cheese, charcuterie and conversation. Paradou is a gem of a French wine bar with little pretense (but occassionally long lines).
