A small traditional specialty shop, stocked with lots of Jewish delicacies and goodies - from herring to halvah, cheeses, coffee beans and kosher pastries. Within a block of the landmark known as Katz's, R&D is worth a look (especially if you're already in the area.) Speaking from personal experience, I can say that the Rugelach is good. And the Babka cake is delicious. FULL REVIEW

I decided to surprise Danna and come back from the shore early. I came home as usual via the Garden State Parkway but since I was going directly to the city, not northern NJ this time around, I decided to take the Outer Bridge Crossings route...which takes you to Battery Park and thus the FDR Drive. Its about 10:00am at this point, and as I see the Houston Street Exit I quickly think about how good a bagel with lox and cream cheese would be, and how happy Danna would be to have breakfast upon my suprise arrival. Rushing at Russ & Daughters

If you had told me last night that within a three hour period the next day I would read the Sunday Times, rush down to the Lower East Side, visit Russ & Daughters for the first time and then grab tickets for the matinee of "Oedipus at Palm Springs" (by The Five Lesbian Brothers (who are also bloggers); it closed today and it was great, sorry you missed it) I would've called you a liar.
