I hate over-priced food, but there is a soft spot in my heart for Dean & Deluca. Probably because I could spend hours roaming the big one in Soho (even though I’ve never actually buy anything), just staring at the meats and cheeses and flavored salts and meats and fruit and bread and cheeses and seafood [...]

I should probably have my head examined trying to eat lunch near Rockefeller Center in December… but I found out that Dean & Deluca has Sullivan St. Bakery Pizza- and had to check it out. The actual Sullivan St. Bakery is on 47th st. btw. 10th & 11th, right around the corner from where I live. (The name comes from the original storefront on Sullivan St. in the West Village). The current location on 47th is where they make all their bread… and delicious flat bread pizzas. Unfortunately, 10th ave. is a little far to walk for lunch- so when I found out they’ve got the pizza at Dean & Deluca I was pretty excited.

Of all those catalogs that clog our mailboxes and make recycling a daily activity this time of year, I find Dean and DeLuca is the best one for getting me in the right mood to spend some holiday money. It's all these great pastries and cookies they offer from traditions all over the world. This year I was sorely tempted to order a North African gift collection (with rose water, harissa and preserved lemons), a selection of Japanese sweets, panforte, lebkuchen (three types of gingerbread from Austria), tea-flavored butter cookies and cinnamon licorice reindeer.

There are quite a few of Dean and Deluca cafes and gourmet markets in Manhattan, this one I stopped by for refreshment was the one in the background of the morning show 'Today Show.' The Raspberry cake is way too sweet and blah~~ yuk!

Some people drink copious amounts of alcohol and turn into drunken monkey-esque creatures (well, I suppose we are monkey-esque creatures already). I drink many cups of tea and turn into...a human filled with liquids. If someone impaled me with a syringe (a rather disturbing idea, yet it's the first one that came to mind), tea would shoot out like water from a fire hose (wait, shouldn't a fire hose shoot out fire?).

East 16th off Union Square: The restaurant was fresh, hip, and had excellent seating outside in the warm, muggy, New York night. Vegetarian fare, with reasonably sized plates, yummy appetizers, and tasty desserts... and CHEAP! I was in heaven. I had an Artichoke/meat substitute stirfry with Basil Mu-shu rolls, Taro Spring Rolls, and a Key Lime pie. I would recommend all of them; although Ben wasn't so impressed with the artichoke dish. We walked out for just over $30.
