It had been a while since my last visit to the Dumpling House. Frankly, the dingy, cramped quarters always made this a place for times I was in a hurry and needed food fast but didn't want fast food. Imagine... FULL REVIEW

I've mentioned Vanessa's Dumplings Vanessa's Dumplings before but I thought I'd give a more thorough review this time. We've ordered from Vanessa's Dumplings a couple of times and my evaluation is that they make certain things well and there are other items to stay away from. I'd steer away from seafood dumplings because they weren't so fresh but pork and chive dumplings are good, especially for the area. Their wontons are the best I've found that will deliver to us. I can't stand the over-sized wontons with doughy skins that are common outside of Chinatown. Yuck! But when ordering wontons, get the Shrimp, Pork and Watercress Wonton Soup... FULL REVIEW

Chinatown has moved on up to East 14th Street. Well, at least a little piece of it has, at Vanessa’s Dumplings. The proprietor, Vanessa Weng, opened this outpost a few months ago between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, after starting a smaller dumpling shop years before on Eldridge Street. At first, the new Vanessa’s looks like yet another storefront serving Americanized Chinese glop, but there is some fairly authentic Beijing-style street food here. FULL REVIEW

Bahn Mi, Mantou, Ssäm

I just had great ass sandwich. It's made w/ mantou (this Chinese bread--the stuff they use for the buns at Momofuku) and filled w/ things like grilled chicken, braised pork shoulder, short rib w/ kimchi, and spicy pork. It was unbelievably yummy and cheap ($3.75). It's this new place called Province that NY Mag wrote a blurb about. I highly suggest it. It's just as good as, and cheaper than, the pork bun at Momofuku. FULL REVIEW
