Two of us from our business trip to Ireland met up at Esca to welcome Barry, our driver that entire week in September, and his girlfriend to the city. The New York City thing about tasting menus is that when one person wants to sample the chef’s best, the entire table has to do the same. The staff was nice enough to allow only two of us to do that, meaning more food to sample for all. I opted for the crudo appetizer, tasting portions of raw seafood: uni served on its shell, an oyster, scallops with chervil, razor clams with chilis and scallions and hamachi. I salivated over Barry’s carpaccio yellowfin tuna which was served like it was prosciutto instead of the more familiar diced presentation. Katherine’s linguine was al dente, just the way I like my pasta. FULL REVIEW

There are a variety of restaurants in the Theater district, most of them are not very good. We generally eat after the theater because we find ourselves nodding off after a good meal. So, we try to eat a light meal post-theater. Esca is one of our favorites. FULL REVIEW
