You can't see it from this picture but what you're looking at on the projector is rows and rows and rows of red Mt. Everest-proof jackets, queued up and ready to outfit all the crazies who decide to spend time in Antarctica. Ken Mankoff is one such (impressive) crazy that I met at a Young Professionals dinner sponsored by the Nature Conservancy. My friend BumbleBee invited me to go and I was excited to try a new restaurant and learn about Antarctica. BumbleBee informed me that Mankoff was trained in giving Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" lecture and I was thrilled to have the chance to hear him speak. I expected an elderly gentleman... Sweet and Sour Sensation

I went to Zen Palate for lunch yesterday. This vegetarian's oasis is located at the heart of bustling Union Square but the atmosphere can be quite zen-like, especially if you sit upstairs. The food is new age Asian and wonderfully varied - from spring rolls and steamed vegetable buns to soy crepes and potato croquettes. I'm not used to having so much choice at restaurants so it's really hard to decide what to eat. FULL REVIEW

I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of faux-meat but Zen Palate, a trendy vegetarian restaurant in Union Square, has won me over with its innovativeness with soy and wheat-gluten based dishes. FULL REVIEW
