I've been once before and had a very pleasant dinner. Tonight, with the exception of the jackass sitting two stools down from me, was equally pleasant. As I was dining solo and had to get back in decent time, I sat at the bar and decided to try dishes I'd skipped last time... Oysters Hurricane Harbor (Nova Scotia) - very salty and, though not thin, not the meatiest. Overall very good and remarkably fresh. Malaspina (British Columbia) - nice, even color and full bodied flavor. Not that salty. Tasty and, like the others, very fresh. The Mermaid Inn makes 3 restaurants for the owners of Red Cat and The Harrison. I think 3 is the winner. The Mermaid Inn is definitely the best one. I never loved Red Cat in Chelsea. Much prefer going to Bottino across the street. The Harrison has a great atmosphere but I didn't find the food worth the trip. The Mermaid Inn, on the other hand, is a perfect addition to the East Village. FULL REVIEW

Swimster was apartment hunting in the Flatiron/Murray Hill district and we wanted to try a new restaurant, somewhere in the vicinity.Walking down 2nd Avenue proved to be a great idea, as the street is filled with exciting looking restaurants. Jimmy Bradley, the chef, owner and creative culinary force behind The Red Cat, and The Harrison has opened another easy love restaurant with The Mermaid Inn, located in the East Village. The restaurant will take you away to the bluffs of a windswept seashore, with its dark wainscoting, hurricane lamps, vintage nautical maps, and a big icy raw bar.
