agozarBy food. new york (and affiliates). Jan 08, 2007for kathy’s 24th birthday celebration, several of us gathered at agozar, a cuban restaurant on bowery. (i’m classifying it as soho, but i’m not actually sure that’s correct). Serving $9 tasty (but not very strong) mojitos, agozar is a cute and moderately roomy establishment by manhattan standards. for $22 & $9 respectively, stephanie & i split a churrasco (skirt steak with chimichurra and shoestring fries) and an arepas with ropa vieja. the churrasco unfortunately did not come medium rare as requested. nevertheless it was pretty good, and the fries, while soggy, were surprisingly tasty (how can fat and frying go wrong?). steph was super-excited about arepas, but she was sadly disappointed, as they turned out to be a different affair than she was used to; at agozar they were a little sugary sweet and a strange pairing with the tasty beef ropa vieja. So the meal wasn’t quite right, but it was still a fun place to go and a tasty meal. I’m holding off on my recommendation. FULL REVIEW
