I once ate a whole loaf of wonder bread - I wonder where that puts me on the personality spectrum.

Same owners of French Roast on 85/bway. Went here fri night nothing to shout about. The "Saumon Fum Minute" w/ green lentils was pretty bland. I never use salt and had to put some on. No hints of truffle oil in the "Warm Leeks Vinaigrette sherry vinegar w/ truffle oil & tomatoes." My companion had a seared hanger steak w/ marrow & red wine sauce, which I didn't try but he ate the whole 5-portioned thing. if his dish was in accord with the others, then his taste buds=vapid, just like his persona

Cafe d'Alsace has been having a bit of a Pig Fest all this week in honor a vist by the father of the chef. The chef is Philippe Roussel and his father is Remy. I do have to apologize for the pictures. I forgot my camera so these have been lifted from the internet. If I ever get back here again, and I might because the food was delicious, I will take my own pictures and post an update.

Though travelling to the Upper East Side for heavy French fare didn't hypothetically sound like my idea of the perfect Friday evening, I ventured to Simon Oren's latest brasserie to see what all the recent fuss was about. As I pulled up, I noticed a sidewalk littered with diners, young and old, hip and not-so-hip, all festively sipping on foreign brews. An otherwise humble space - decorated with burgundy banquettes, soft saffron-painted walls, cafe signs, & serious outdoor space - gets a splash of color from Moroccan-tiled floors and a bright collection of seltzer bottles. This unassuming neighborhood haunt somehow manages to transport lucky reservation holders to the Alsatian region without making a scene about it.

Every so often, I'll develop a craving for a food other than chocolate. Strangely, this morning I awoke with a desire for French fries. I'd read something about the truffled asiago frites at David Burke at Bloomingdales (59th & Lexington Ave.), so I thought I'd start there.

In this well-fed and cutthroat city, every new week brings as many as a half dozen new restaurants, and I’m not counting franchises, corner take-out places and lounges with glorified canapes.
