Last week, I took a few of my friends to Natural Tofu in Sunnyside. As I suspected, they quite enjoyed the massive $8 tofu bowls, as well as the lovely array of panchan (though not everyone thought kimchi was a good idea – heathens). But we tried a few other things, too. The barbecued squid ($12) that I had noticed on my first visit was a must – unfortunately I found it a bit disappointing. Some pieces were admittedly lovely, but some were a bit funny in the flavor department – similar to squid ink’s funky flavor, maybe. I’d probably eschew ordering it again. FULL REVIEW

I was feeling pretty lazy on Friday, but resolved that I would make a food excursion – I was craving spice, in a bad way. I’m not sure, then, why I ended up googling Mangal, the Turkish eatery that’s the only Sunnyside entry on the VV list, because even the spiciest doner kebap I’ve ever had pales in comparison to what I usually require when craving spice. Natural Tofu

Their business card says Seoul Garden Restaurant but you might know it as Natural Tofu. People come here for the tofu chigaes, boiling hot woks of spicy broths with seafood or pork, all with tofu and bean sprouts. FULL REVIEW

There is no sign for Natural Tofu. There isn't even a listing in Menupages. But the place had been recommended to me, and so I went - up the small flight of stairs to the spacious second floor. FULL REVIEW
