When craft opened the menu immediately appealed to me. Being shi-shi, the restaurant was booked-up, and I found it hard to go without reservations weeks ahead. Frankly, I wasn't that interested. So, I never made it to craft. My sister says it's pretty good, albeit pricey. Jessica made it to craftbar and said it was good, but pricey. Tom Colicchio continued opening tons of restaurants with craft in the name, including 12 sandwich shops called 'wichcraft (ten of which are in New York, one in San Francisco, and one in Las Vegas). My first visit to a 'wichcraft 'wichcraft LV was the Las Vegas location, in the MGM Grand. My sister,...

Fat Man’s Guide to Eating at ‘wichcraft for Under $10
Yes, I am fat. Yes, I am a big fan of quantity. Yes, I love all you can eat buffets- and value is important to me. But I am not a savage animal. Not all of my meals must be eaten off a mobile truck parked on a sidewalk. And it doesn’t always need to [...]

I know some of you are wondering why I am I not updating or writing my a post this week at all? That’s because it’s an uninspiring week of food. Quite sad I have to say, partly due to the fact that I’m stressed with schoolwork (it doesn’t really end until May 21st - my [...]

Okay, maybe Top Design is growing on me. Todd Oldham’s voice is sounding a little less like a grade school drag queen’s, and Kelly Wearstler’s one line smackdowns bear the mark of some serious evil genius. But even if the show received a stay of execution on my Tivo To-Do List, it’s still no replacement for Top Chef. Yesterday found me hankering for a fix. Enter ‘Wichcraft, Tom Colicchio’s sandwich shop at the bottom of the Westfield San Francisco Center.

wichcraft in Bryant Park (and how to get to the front of the line!)
Famous Chefs in New York City seem to be expanding their empires at every chance. One of the most popular trends seems to be opening up cheaper places where people can enjoy over-priced versions of items that are usually considered less then chic. Most famously Danny Meyer (Union Square Cafe, The Modern) opened the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park, where people can now stand in line for over an hour for a burger and fries. Thomas Keller (Per Se) opened the Bouchon Bakery in the Time Warner Center, Mario Batali (Babbo, Lupa) opened his gelOtto Cart in Washington Sq. Park and Tom Collichio (Grammercy Tavern & Craft) has opened 6 ‘wichcraft locations in New York, where people can get fancy pants sandwiches, soups and salads designed by the famous chef.

I had heard great things about Craft's sandwich shops, but never was lucky enough to run into one, until last week. On my way to meet a friend, I happened upon the 'wichcraft on 8th street. 'wichcraft, in-line with the rest of the Craft family, spins all their own ice cream, bakes all their own goodies, uses hormone-free and farm veggies and buys from small producers.

There are some times when you don't want a fancy meal. You want something easy that you can eat quickly, preferably using your hands rather than silverware. But that doesn't mean you don't want it to be tasty, with various flavor combinations that you perhaps never thought of combining before; flavors you'll want to repeat later in your own cooking. For these times, 'wichcraft is the place to go.

Burgers (& cupcakes from somewhere else) and a cheesy sandwich from 'wichcraft
I think it's close enough. The pink-orange-brown color palette works pretty well though, don't you think? Does it make your stomach churn with meat-digesting powers? IS YOUR BELLY SEETHING? If so, you might want to get that checked out.

Spring is here and I literally bit into its crispiness and freshness at lunch today. Having barely five minutes to grab a sandwich, I hopped across to my favourite soup and sandwich place in the city, 'wichcraft.

No, I've spent my whole life eating turkey sandwiches. I ate them all the way through high school, through college and even law school. Turkey sandwiches are like my own private hamster food; they go down like pellets and replenish me for the big hamster wheel of life. Usually I eat them on whole wheat or rye bread with mustard and, if at all possible, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and (in recent years) oil, vinegar, salt and pepper.
