I remember when my wife was deciding where to go to Law School. She had been accepted into a few different schools, and it was between Tulane and some other places. I can’t remember the other ones, because the choice seemed pretty clear to me- go to New Orleans. I remember saying “When are you going to have another opportunity to go, and live somewhere as cool as New Orleans for three years of your life”. The truth is, I had no idea what I was talking about. I had never been there, and didn’t really know anything about the place… but as luck would have it, I ended up being right.

We went here celebrating Quack's birthday. Quack lives with Fashionista and she's a born and raised N'awlins girl. So Jacquesimo's was the perfect pick.The decor is pretty plain, with various Louisiana knick-knacks and things hanging from the walls. There's an outdoor "deck" that branches off the main dining room which I still have yet to sit in.

Recently, Marty and I decided to take advantage of his Central Park tennis plans to try out Jacques-Imo’s on the Upper West Side with Leb and Terry who live near there. I’ve been to the original in New Orleans and loved it, but I knew not to expect the same experience in the New York offshoot. As the reviewers have described, it is a kitschy place with Spanish moss dripping from the ceiling and murals featuring alligators covering the walls. It’s a silly, kind of over the top place, but then again so is the original. Amanda Hesser had given it the harsh “satisfactory” rating sans star, but had many kind words for the fried chicken:
