Michael Lomonaco is the kind of guy who is just eminently huggable and who is one to make you feel at home no matter which and what kind of restaurant he runs. A true proponent and practitioner of restaurant hospitality, he’s cheffed at some of the city’s most iconic restaurants, including The 21 Club and the late Windows On The World, which was destroyed on September 11, 2001. Following his career as the last chef at Windows on The World, he briefly acted as consulting chef at both Guastavino’s and Noche.

Porter House New York I'll start off by saying that the two experiences I had at Porter House this week should only be taken at face value, as you will see, I never quite got to the main event - which to me is a big juicy steak. Michael Lomonaco, of Windows on the World and The 21 Club fame, has inherited this park view space, formerly home to the Jean-Georges' ill-fated V steakhouse, a garrulously over-the-top exercise in butcher shop chic. Lomonaco steps up to the plate, attempting to succeed where Jean-Georges has failed.

The Restaurant Collection at the Time-Warner Center was meant to be the most luminous assemblage of chefs ever gathered under one roof. Each of its five restaurants was considered a New York Times three or four-star candidate. Some, like Masa and Per Se, lived up to their promise. Café Gray has had its problems initially, but now seems to be flourishing, with a Michelin star to its credit. Charlie Trotter’s restaurant never opened, and a clone of TriBeCa standout Landmarc is to replace it.
