I had a night to kill, was in the mood for some sushi, didn’t feel like fish overload @ Kuruma Zushi, and Sushi Yasuda just isn’t for me. For some reason, Masa fit the mood but i didn’t feel like spending a million bucks. Didn’t feel like trying a new place (Ushi Wakamuru comes highly rated) and the Sushi Gari’s weren’t exactly what i was looking for.What does that leave? Decided to give Bar Masa a shot hoping I could get some very good fish from its big brother (Masa) but still stay on some semblance of a budget.The place was dead - 2-3 tables plus me @ the bar. You may recall that last week my parents sent me a gift certificate for Williams Sonoma in celebration of my 27th birthday. I decided to parlay this gift certifiate at the Time Warner Center location since the one in Chelsea isn't as lavish and I wanted the full lavish Williams Sonoma experience. On departing for the Time Warner Center, I decided to go hungry (this was lunchtime) because I knew that the Whole Foods there has lots of seating and a more eclectic buffet/salad bar than the one near me. Masayoshi Takayama's Masa may be the best sushi in America, and definitely the most expensive meal in the city, at $400 a person, but for paupers like me, check out the bar version a la FULL REVIEW

I went over to see what Stephan Trummer, the fabulous bar chef formerly of Citarella, was up to over at Bar Masa. Well, lots of good stuff. Sure, the sushi menu here is reason enough to visit, but Trummer’s artisan cocktails make food (sort of) unnecessary. FULL REVIEW
