A friend of ours keeps a list of New York truisms such as: “There is an automatic $20 penalty for setting foot out of your apartment building,” and “Garbage collection never happens on the day when you put your bags at the curb.” But our favorite of these is: “It is axiomatic that if you wander around the West Village for longer than a few hours, you will run into Ethan Hawke.” So when Chopper and Mr. Coffee took us to Doma Café & Gallery recently, we were not surprised at all to hear them warn us that the place might be crowded, “and especially if Ethan Hawke and the celeb gawkers are there–he often is.” Of course, Doma sits at the corner of Perry Street and Waverly Place…so Q.E.D.

Doma, Grey Dog Coffee, and more Grey Dog Coffee: I feel like I'm preggers
hanks to everyone for pre-ordering t-shirts! I guess all I had to do to get that rolling was...tell people it existed. I extended the pre-order until early May because otherwise I'll be stuck with a crapload of shirts at finals time. Which isn't cool. In this case, I'll be mailing the shirts from home in NJ and not NYC, although I'd still come to NYC for fooding and...um, actual things to do, which don't really exist in suburbia.]

Didn't Bob Dylan and Kerouac and basically everyone cool pass through the west village at one point or another? So my quesiton is...why haven't I BEEN here before?!?!? I basically walk the skirts of the blue and green lines...but there is so much more...could it be that I have a new favorite neighborhood? The West Village might have just overtaken the East Village in coolness...well maybe not coolness so much as cleanliness. Anyhoo I will shun the West Village no more! This is DOMA.

I'm always on the look out for the best cafés to spend a lazy afternoon reading a good book with tea and maybe a pastry. I like my cafés to be cozy, with not too loud music. Ambience and good and reasonably price eats are my criteria.
