Marty and I headed over to Golden Unicorn last weekend to try out their Dim Sum. Up to this point, our NYC dim sum cravings have been satisfied at Ping’s Seafood. Ping’s in general, has treated us right, but there are some drawbacks. First, if you get seated downstairs (which we seem to be sat almost every time), there is no cart service. The variety of treats making basement appearances is scaled down from the main floor. You have to send waiters on wild goose chases for your favorites – trying to explain what you want in English can be challenging. So…I figured it was time to try out some of the other dim sum houses that NYC had to offer.

ugh. a blogger publishing issue erased my post, and I'm too depressed to recreate it right now. Here's the short version: Chinese New Year. Golden Unicorn restaurant in Chinatown. Awful Service. Decent Food. And a good time was had by all.

Yesterday I went to Golden Unicorn with my mum and Diana for lunch. Dim sum is always best with as many people as you can gather, in this case three people. So not a whole lot. A lot of dim sum dishes come in groups of three (because it's a lucky number I think?) so it was perfect. It's probably the closest dim sum restaurant to my dorm since it's at the beginning of East Broadway and I (and my mum) had heard good things about it. It was a little smaller than I thought it would be and thankfully not really crowded when we went (a little before noon). It got more crowded while we were there and we were surprised at how many non-Asian people were there. Not that they were necessarily tourists, but it's a pretty popular place.
