awashBy food. new york (and affiliates). Sep 20, 2006my first foray into ethiopian proved to be a fun one. neeraja & i stopped in at awash for dinner where we tried time out’s recommended “carnivorous combo” - 2 beef dishes, one lamb, one chicken and 3 veggies. the beets and lentils were very delicious, and in general the meat dishes were well spiced and tasty. the collards were bitter and unlikable, unfortunately, so no greens for the evening. i found the bread to be a little too tangy in combination with some of the dishes, but overall found the experience to be very fun! the restaurant was also neat - very authentic feel and quite cute. i think i’d like to try some other ethiopian restaurants in the city to see if the food gets better (or the bread less tangy), but definitely a good type of cuisine to keep in mind! (combo was $24 for two - quite reasonably priced) FULL REVIEWAwashBy Ganjin Girl's Guide to Chinatown Jun 13, 2006This is a second location for an already existing Ethiopian restaurant on the upper West side. This place is terrific! It's between 1st and 2nd avenue, at the end of a long line of Indian restaurants. It's tiny, elegant, longer than it is wide, with a neat bar in the back for Tej (honey wine). I've just been won over to Ethiopian food, and this place serves it quite tastily. Go FULL REVIEW
