An American classic, served just fine. Pie lovers are a devoted lot. While a cookie monster can be sated with a brownie, and cakes, cupcakes and baked breads can be interchanged without seriously gypped feelings, people who love pie, really love pie and are evangelical about their favorite slice. This is something 22-year-old Little Pie Company gets. In addition to seasonal flavors, their menu includes little pies, whole pies, and slices in about 10 varieties. Their success is as varied as its menu. The best seller, Sour Cream Apple Walnut, is a richer version of the American classic. The sour cream lends a nice savory flavor to the...

Finding a good, cheap place to eat near the theater district is a challenge I often undertake. Sure there's 9th avenue, but there are more doozies than dazzlers there, I'm afraid. The one exception, of course, is Esca--a restaurant that plays an important part in my book--but a restaurant that can be prohibitively expensive. So where to eat when Mark, your theater critic friend and music blogger, takes you to see a play at Playwrights Horizons? Why Turkish Cuisine, of course:

Today was the last day on American Gangster for Karen, so I went to get a treat for us. I rode my bike up 11th ave, which was scary because of all of the Lincoln Tunnel traffic and because I can't stop thinking about the two people who recently got run over on their bikes last week. But I made it to the Little Pie Company in one piece and bought a key lime pie because they are tart. Karen has a very tart sense of humor and we were calling her the proptart, so it works. Riding south on 10th Ave was scary because I was scared my pie and mini cheesecakes were going to fly off the back of my bike. Then, much to my horror, a cop on a horse started trotting in front of me! I couldn't pass them on the left because the traffic was bumper to bumper to the Tunnel. I like horses, but that one did not seem happy, it kept on snorting and turning around, it was unnerving. I rode like a slug praying that the horse wouldn't poop in front of me.

For the past few days I've had the tendency to burp, or feel like burping more than I usually would (as in, not very often). I don't know why this is happening...did I eat too much? Too quickly? Huh? For the past two days I've eaten one meal...er, okay, kinda like two meals, but I skipped lunch since I realized I didn't need it. I feel fine without lunch and after the uncomfortable burping (during which I hold my breath, thinking something's going to come up, and then nothing happens besides me getting less oxygen) I feel like I'd rather do without dinner also. Drinking water makes it worse, but I can't NOT drink water. Dammit, I'm thirsty.

Poor Todd. He's been working really hard, late the last two nights and then full days this weekend, and I'M the one who feels put-upon about it. Being left alone with a 6-week-old baby all day and then also during those evening witching hours when all babies turn from pumpkins to wailing terrors made me as hysterical as our son. (I think we just get kind of sick of each other.) Anyway, this is on my food blog instead of the baby blog because Todd brought me a present to make up for it. Two presents.
