Hope and Anchor and Led Zeppelin

When I first moved to Brooklyn almost two years ago, I have to admit I had an unhealthy fascination with Red Hook. Something about this post-industrial wasteland of warehouses, eclectic whiskeys and mediocre BBQ must have reminded me of my Old Dominion home. But for the past few months I’ve been in a Red Hook withdrawal of sorts. Primarily because there’s not a single God-damn subway that stops anywhere near it – but also because it’s enough just to know it’s there. FULL REVIEW

My turkey burger with avocado ($8) was pretty tasty, the fries were crisp and hot, my ginger cosmo (ginger vodka, grand marnier, lime, and white cranberry juice) nice and strong, and the singing proprietor Joe was amiable and adorable. But what was up with icy Kay Sera, our cross-dressing karaoke mistress? She put the drag in drag queen. Blaise was singled out by Kay and asked to pipe down, though many other people in the room were being plenty rowdy. If I wanted to radiate good vibes and politely clap at some self-indulgent adult recital, I'd go see cabaret at the Rainbow Room. But it's KARAOKE. With a DRAG QUEEN. And STRONG LIQUOR. That's some no sex in the champagne room bullshit. We suspect Kay was envious of Blaise's fab Gwynnie style blond wig. In this interview, Kay Sera/Richard Eagan says: FULL REVIEW
