On a cold and dreary Saturday, I went to the Walter Reade theater to get tickets for Edge of Heaven, the new Fatih Akin film. It was sold out by 2pm. Who knew that the Turkish-German director was that popular? So then I had to decide what to eat for my entertainment. Should I go to the old staple, Burger Joint at the Parker Meridian Hotel or Japanese noodle soup? I called Carol and she said ramen because the last time she ate at Burger Joint, her fingers smelled like meat all day. Because I was going to see Crispin Glover at the 7 o'clock screening of Rubin and Ed, it would be wrong to smell like meat. He's vegan. So I walked over to... FULL REVIEW

Menchanko-Tei

In my quest to search out the best Ramen in Midtown, I feel like I’ve gone backwards… Sapporo was first, because it was right next to my office building. A longtime favorite of the area, the Miso Ramen is delicious- but the quality of the ingredients (especially the pork) I found to be less than great. I followed that up with Men Kui Tei, which I found to be a notch above Sapporo. The Miso Ramen was also delicious, but the pork and other ingredients in the soup were of a much higher quality. It probably worked out better this way- because if I had gone to Menchanko-Tei first, I might not have enjoyed the other two as much… FULL REVIEW

M&ms: menchanko & mooncakes

This post is long overdue [well, the Menchanko part]. Over a month ago, I went to Menchanko http://www.menchankotei.com/ for lunch- it’s just down the block from me. I sat upstairs in the balcony area of the restaurant. You can see my views of down below in the pix below. Menchanko is basically a ramen bar and I’m obsessed with ramen. There’s this chicken and pork ramen my mom introduced to me years ago, and I can’t stop eating it. When I was in college, I used to make ramen into a meal. I put Chinese veggies, meats and some type of soup or broth and ate it as a meal. When I moved back to Manhattan, I got to change up the ramen, but when my mom makes chicken and mushroom, I use that sauce with my ramen and it is slammin’. So yea, there’s no doubt about my love for ramen. FULL REVIEW
