Fay Da Bakery, a popular Chinese Bakery with locations in Flushing and Chinatown, has now opened it's doors in Forest Hills Fay Da Bakery. This makes me extremely happy because I have been saying for years that these Chinese bakeries should branch out to different markets. As I suspected, this location was extremely packed with patrons. As I browsed the bakery, I spotted two items I had never seen before. That was quite shocking to me as I had believed that I have sampled every item a Chinese bakery has. Of course I had to buy them, plus a Coffee-Milk-Tea, to sip on our way back to the city. My enthusiasm for this creamy blend of coffee... FULL REVIEW

Chocolate Walnut Bun. I had to go for it. Chocolate is a rare find in a Chinese Bakery. So I saw this and it seduced me. It was one dollar. FULL REVIEW

Goodies in Chinatown

Uh huh. And that's why we eat it in frosting-slathered-cake form today: TO HONOR THE SUN! Wait..no. I have no idea when I last had Buche de Noel, but I know I've had it at some point in my life. They're not very traditional with the Chinese crowd, I guess (my family doesn't have any Christmas traditions, or any holiday traditions in general). However, I had to snap that photo at Fay Da Bakery for a few reasons. As you can see, it's got two Santas (100% MORE SANTA THAN THE LEADING COMPETITOR) and some funky, somewhat out of place whipped-cream dollop fungal growths. There's also this: FULL REVIEW

I'm sure somewhere out there has said that, or something like that. Certainly no one's said it to my parents, who have less than nothing to worry about when it comes to such supposed horrors of college (I'll admit though, I barely know anyone who doesn't get into some drunken debauchery every now and then.) Chinatown and mooncakes

I got this passage out of Consuming Geographies by David Bell & Gill Valentine, a book for my "Essentials of Cusine" class. The name of my class is misleading since it probably sounds more like a cooking class than one that has to do with food theory. My teacher said if there were less bureaucracy to changing the name of a class, she'd call it "The Evolution of Cuisine". FULL REVIEW

There haven't been many updates lately (as in not one every waking moment of the day) because I've refrained from eating out or anything of much interest. I'm still working my way through the bag of dumplings I bought last week and I've been eating the dumplings for the past few days. They're yummy, it's nothing to complain about.
