I don’t usually mention Sripraphai re-visits because they’re frequent and my ordering style is repetitive. I’m only bringing this meal up because I’d never attempted take out before and was highly impressed by the packaging. I always come back from...

Peter and I ate at Sripraphai last night. I think it’s been eight years since I’ve been going there. I remember when it was one room, with mirrors on one wall. I once saw a Thai customer pick up the sugar dispenser on his table and pour sugar all over his noodles. [...]

Had another great trip out there. Tried the crispy catfish salad, which I didn't really enjoy. Had the crispy watercress salad which was great, but not as good as its been in the past. The penang curry = as good as ever. Delicious. And I also tried the drunken sauteed noodles with beef for the first time. Excellent. Note: Takeout orders of the Penang curry are smaller (I think) than the regular orders. I happened to order some more penang to go and noticed this the following morning. If doing so, I'd suggest ordering it at the table...and having them give you the packaging for to go.

WOW! As good as I've heard and then some. This will likely go down as one of the best dinners I'll have in New York. The flavors and balance of ingredients were incredible. Truly an eye opening and mouth watering experience. A true wake-up of the senses.

In a city as varied and as disputatious as New York, to find unanimity on anything is as rare as coming upon a parking spot. Yet, as far as Thai restaurants are concerned, one name is on everyone's lips - even if that name is routinely garbled. Sripraphai, located in the heart of Woodside, Queens, a few blocks down from the Jackson Heights subway stop. One imagines that the staff keeps a list detailing how customers scramble three simple syllables - two dozen entries would be a start. The menu helpfully provides the correct pronunciation (See-PRA-Pie).

I was helping Pat move from his Greenpoint apartment out to Boerum Hill. Along with his brother Jim, we loaded his CDs and books into boxes and drove them through the borough. Around two, whenever our mild hangovers started to wear off, we all went out in search of food. Jim suggested a new taco stand down by McCarren Park. I hadn't had a good taco in ages, so I quickly and optimistically agreed.

I love Sripraphai. They treat me like family there, which is to say that the best waitress pokes fun at my limited Thai vocab and berates me for not visiting more often. Eleven of my friends came out to help me celebrate on Saturday. All the elements seemed to be conspiring against us: the cold October rain came in spurts, the 7 and G trains were not running properly, and it was completely packed when we got there. They don't take reservations there, and I think Jim was right -- all the Thai people and old folks thought they'd beat the crowds by getting there at 6:00 for dinner, thus beating my 6:15 group out for the long tables.

We had dinner at our friends house a couple of week ago. They are both serious foodies. When it comes to Thai food, they both said we must go to Sripraphai in Woodside because it is the closest thing they had tasted to the food in Thailand.
