The Saturday before Time Out NY’s article on the best pizza places in New York came out, I was already thinking of pizza. It was just a mere coincidence that TONY had the same thought process. Of course, the “best” pizza is always so relative and arbitrary. And it’s New York- there’s almost as many pizzerias as Starbucks here! Anyway, Eva and I compiled a list of places to go with the help of TONY. We came up with about 8 places that were going to be in the areas we were shopping that day [we decided it’d be a good idea to walk off the calories]. Unfortunately, time didn’t permit us to visit all the places we wanted, but here’s a quick overview of our day.

We have it on persistant and impassioned authority that the best Pizza in the whole world can be found at Joe's. So Fred and I could not be in the Big Apple without heading over to the Village to check it out.

I was so glad to find out last night that I am not the only one in New York City who has “WRITE AN ANGRY LETTER TO LOMBARDI’S PIZZA” on my to do list. I picked up a woman in Park Slope who told me she was going to Allen and Stanton. It was midnight, and she had to leave her friends at the bar so she could head home and go back to work. But first she wanted to stop for a slice to sober up. “Rosario’s?” I asked, judging from her destination. “Yeah, how’d you know?” she said. “Well I’d hope you aren’t going to Ray’s.”

What a sad sight this week. Joe's Pizza, a true fixture in the West Village on Carmine and Bleeker, is closed. The good news is that they have an annex a few doors down that has remained open. But, it just isn't the same.
