How have I managed to eat at this place several times and not once blogged about it? It's been in my links list since I started this blog. I first happened upon Rice To Riches three and a half years ago. Eatdrink&bemerry suggested I check the place out because...umm, we're Asian and we like rice. ;P But it's so much more than rice — it's all about rice pudding here. I've eaten here with friends, and I also took my parents here a couple of times. Mom and Dad seem to really like this place because a) their rice pudding is yummy, and b) their...

Located on the edge of Chinatown - a small, unique dessert shoppe specializing in rice pudding (available in a myriad of flavors, from coconut coca to rest in peach. The sweets are delicious and healthy (at least in theory.) The decor is classy, and the sweets are positively yummy - complete with a full range of toppings (including oatmeal cookie crumble and mixed nuts.) If you have the slightest sweet tooth, you have to give this place a try. Because rice pudding deserves another chance...!

I feel more full right now than I did yesterday, which is kind of amazing. Why? Welllll, sit back, grab some unhealthy easy-to-munch-on foodstuffs, and I'll tell you the story of "Walking Around A Few Miles And Eating Along The Way With My Friend Jason Because Why Else Would We Walk For Miles? Found this amazing designy place that sells only rice pudding: Rice to Riches. There're many flavors, we had the Endangered Maple with Sun Dried Blueberries and Man-Made Mascarpone with Cherries, very yummy! You can taste a little sample before making decision. There're LDC wall screens with motion graphics, and the plastic bowl with covers (in case you can't finish it)...so elaborate. Though most of the stool tables don't have stools, a very pity minus for our tortured legs. I love this area Nolita (= North of Little Italy), it's full of cozy little cafe and bistro and boutique of up-and-coming designers.

I’ve seen a lot of weird stuff since living in New York, but one of the weirdest things yet encountered is the astonishing popularity growth of Rice to Riches, on Spring St. After first having patronized RTR on empty nights, cracking jokes aplenty about its alleged connections to a gambling ring, all the while secretly enjoying that I seemed to have the place (and its delicious puddings) to myself, the last few times I’ve been back have been a mob scene. All seats and places at the standup table taken? What the hell’s going on?
